POF Shrink Film Manufacturing Process | How To Produce POF Shrink Films? | Complete Guide
Introduction to POF Shrink Film Manufacturing
The complete POF shrink film manufacturing process. Complete guide for producing high quality multi-layer POF shrink film by the blown film method. We’re POF shrink film manufacturer in China, producing top quality and stable performance POF shrink films. Our products have improved shrinking properties and higher impact strength.
POF shrink film is a heat shrinkable plastic packaging material. Major applications include multipack promotional items or shrink wrap a single item. To protect them from outer contamination and give an attractive appearance to the packed items.
POF Shrink Film Manufacturing Process By Steps
Producing POF shrink film requires careful control of the extrusion process, as well as attention to detail in cooling, orientation, and quality control to ensure that the final product meets the desired specifications for use in shrink packaging applications. Here are the production procedures step by step, to make this flexible shrink packaging material.
Step #1: LDPE Polymers
The main raw materials for POF shrink films are LDPE plastic resins. We only use high-grade raw materials to produce POF shrink films.
Step #2: Raw Materials Mixing
For different applications and customer purposes, we will produce the film with the predetermined formula.
Step #3: Materials Into Extruders
Raw materials are inhaled into extruders synchronously. As this multi-layer co-extruded film, we have 5 extruders in total to generate the film.
Step #4: Melting Polymers
After the LDPE polymers are into the extruders, the screws of the extruder will squeeze and heat the raw materials. This process is plasticating extrusion to molten polymers.
Step #5: First Bubble
Thick Film Tube: The molten polymers go through several annular dies to form a very thick film tube. High-pressure air inflates the tube to create the first bubble. To adjust die lips and bolts will have different film bubble thicknesses.
Step #6: Water Quenching
Chilled water passes through the high-temperature thick film tube. This will occur in the crystallization of LDPE polymers. The higher the cooling speed, the better transparency, and gloss of the POF shrink film.
Step #7: Bubble Reinflation & Orientation
Reheat the thick film tube and introduce hot air into it. This will inflate the second buddle. Stretch the second bubble in the longitudinal & transverse directions, this process is also named film orientation. Stretch the film in the longitudinal direction and machine direction, to achieve the desired film thickness.
Step #8: Bubble Collapsing
Convergence rollers collapse the second film bubble to form a flat film tube sheet.
Step #9: Mother Roll
The flat film tube sheet rolls up to generate a giant mother roll.
Step #10: Jumbo Roll
Cut the edges of the mother roll and slit it into 2 or 4 jumbo rolls.
Step #11: Centerfolding
The flat jumbo roll will fold at its half lengthways, and roll up.
Step #12: Finished Film Roll
The POF shrink film roll with the label is ready for packing and delivery.
Achieving GRS Certification: Integrating Post-Consumer Recycled Plastics (PCR) into POF Shrink Film Production
To produce POF (Polyolefin) shrink films with post-consumer recycled plastics and meet the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification, you need to follow specific quality control standards and guidelines for both manufacturing processes and material sourcing. Here’s how you can integrate these elements into your production process:
Raw Material Sourcing
Ensure that the post-consumer recycled plastics used in your POF shrink film production comply with GRS requirements. This includes sourcing materials from certified suppliers and verifying the origin and composition of the recycled content.
Material Testing and Traceability
Implement robust testing protocols to verify the quality and composition of recycled plastics. This may involve conducting analyses to identify and quantify contaminants, assessing material properties, and establishing traceability throughout the supply chain to ensure compliance with GRS standards.
Manufacturing Process Optimization
Optimize your manufacturing processes to accommodate recycled plastics while maintaining product quality and performance. This may involve adjusting extrusion parameters, blending ratios, and process controls to achieve the desired properties in the final POF shrink film.
Quality Control Measures
Implement stringent quality control measures throughout the production process to ensure that the finished POF shrink film meets GRS certification requirements. This includes testing for film properties such as thickness, tensile strength, shrinkage characteristics, clarity, and sealability, as well as conducting periodic audits and inspections to verify compliance with GRS standards.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain detailed records of raw material sourcing, production processes, quality control tests, and compliance documentation to support GRS certification requirements. This includes documenting the percentage of recycled content in the final product, tracking material inputs and outputs, and providing transparent reporting on environmental performance metrics.
Certification and Verification
Seek GRS certification for your POF shrink film products through accredited certification bodies. This involves undergoing a thorough assessment of your manufacturing processes, material sourcing practices, and documentation systems to verify compliance with GRS standards.
By adhering to GRS certification requirements and incorporating post-consumer recycled plastics into your POF shrink film production, you can not only benefit the environment by reducing waste and resource consumption but also demonstrate your commitment to sustainability and responsible manufacturing practices.
